Tokyo Weather
Tokyo weather is a fine art - as all weather is in Japan. Why? Well some things depend on the weather forecast. Take Hanami season for example - that's the Japanese cherry blossom festival in Spring. The weather forecast predicts when it will start and end in each area of the country down to the exact day. If they get it wrong there is some serious apologizing to be done. I'm talking public apologies on the evening news! Same goes for the rainy season and koyo (Autumn leaves), although Hanami is the one that is perhaps revered the most.

One thing to be sure of, if you've forgotten to check the weather before leaving your hotel or apartment and everyone around you is carrying umbrellas... there's a 99.9% chance that you're going to need one too - even if the sun is shining and there's not a cloud in the sky.

Tokyo Weather Travel Tips
- Visiting in Spring. Bring a couple of warm sweaters and a warm coat. The weather at this time of year can be vastly different between day and night. While the sun is up, you may be able to get away with a t-shirt on some days. After dark though, be prepared for some chillier moments. Don't forget an umbrella! It can be hot, cold, rainy and windy all in the same day. If you're here for the cherry blossom festival you'll need a coat once the sun goes down.
- Visiting in Summer. Cotton and light clothing as it is both hot and humid. Plenty of deodorant too! You don't want to be the person that everyone is eyeing distastefully on a crowded train. Do you have the tendency to be a tasty snack for mosquitoes - bring some repellent. If you plan on visiting any temples or gardens during your stay, these little critters love to try and ruin the peace. Finally sunscreen and shades for protection.
- Visiting in Autumn. Very similar to Spring expect bring a stronger umbrella - late August and September is when the typhoons drop by for a visit. Although they are not usually as strong in Tokyo as in other areas of Japan, the winds will still destroy your umbrella in a matter of seconds if they catch you the wrong way.
- Visiting in Winter. Warm clothes and your favourite hot drink - you can't always find that jar of Ovaltine, Horlicks or hot chocolate in Tokyo and it is such a comfort at the end of a long cold day. Daft as it might sound, don't forget your sunglasses - the winter sun can be very bright in Tokyo - sunnies will stop you walking round with a permanent squint.
