Tokyo Twitter Oneliners

You Know You're In Tokyo When...

As a Tokyo twitter tweeple, I've managed to find me some really excellent twitterers to follow. It's thanks to folks like these that I manage to keep on top of some of the lesser known events and things to do that are coming up in Tokyo.

Tokyo Twitter Fun!

So what's this page about?

Well, I've often added my own endings to the oneliner, "You know you're in Tokyo when...". It's usually over a cup of morning coffee or after a conversation on the phone with my family. You know, those moments in time where you just get to ponder the whys and wherefores of the place you're at.

So... for a bit of Tokyo Twitter fun, I asked people to share how they would finish this oneliner. I loved the answers I got and want to thank everyone who shared their thoughts. You can see the answers for yourself below.

Make sure to check out the Twitter profiles of the people you find interesting - they might just be worth following... hint hint : )

By the way, the order these are presented is simply the order they were received in. Easiest and simplest way to do it!

"...when people stop staring at you".

Not sure what this one means? If you visit the countryside in Japan you take on celebrity status in effect as there are so few non Japanese people around. Come into Tokyo and suddenly you're no longer the center of attention : )

I have to agree with this! Convenience stores in Tokyo bring a whole new meaning to the word "convenience"!

Much laughter at this one. So true! Sadly I cannot say that the bug has caught me yet. I still stay wide awake.

I wonder how long this will last? I feel an extra tax will soon be added as social costs continue to rise.

I would love to say "Yes I know exactly what you mean"! Sadly I can't. What can I say - I'm a bad student.

It's funny, I've gone in reverse with this one. Perhaps it's a female thing. I prefer the squats as I don't have to touch anything!

Similar to the countryside Tokyo twitter. In Tokyo you're just like everybody else : )

Lol! Oh yes. The glories of key money, deposits, and administration charges.

Coming from the UK this one means a lot to me! Funny thing is though people still nearly kill themselves running to catch the one now rather than wait those five minutes.

Shinjuku springs to mind with this one. The one at Times Square used to have huge queues.

It always amazes me when I see some of the girls in long skirts. If it was me I'd have that all tangled up in my back wheel! Then I really would be a Tokyo twitter lol

...when u ride the train & half of the people inside didn't take a bath- specially in winter.

Hmmm... you've lost me a little with this one. I honestly can't say I've noticed this on a regular basis. Then again I've been known to miss much more obvious things : )

Or you offer up a prayer when you see a mother cycling with babies back and front while talking on her cell phone.

And you know you're really in the rush hour when your feet don't touch the ground. A true Tokyo twitter story from the Inokashira line around 4 years ago ^_^

Add in a lit cigarette and a cell phone and you have a circus act for free!

I still love the lovely vending machines. They're my friend lol.

Yes I've learned to budget my time for this. It reminds of the film Love Actually when Rowan Atkinson is elaborately wrapping that gold necklace.

Hee : ) A great Tokyo twitter : ) When I first arrived here I thought people were saying cow piss. I couldn't figure out why on earth a company would call a drink that?

Ahhh... fusion cooking at its best : ) Love it.

The infamous holiday destination of many Japanese. A mini Tokyo perhaps? I've never been so can't comment!

@martintokyo also sent in a slightly off topic comment but one that definitely rings true and may well start the next Twitter campaign... watch this space. Thanks Martin for the idea : )
