Luxury Hotels

If you're looking for a luxury hotel during your Tokyo stay, there are plenty to choose from!

It's a good idea to have an idea of the area where you want to stay as this will help you to narrow down your search for your hotel. The majority are located in the heart of the city, either on or inside the Yamanote Line, which connects the busiest areas of Tokyo.

Japan is famous for the level and quality of service it delivers to customers and this is definitely true when it comes to your stay in a top-end hotel in the city.

Cheap Tokyo Hotels

If you are traveling on a budget but prefer hotels to guesthouse type accommodation, there are some good discount hotels around.

These are usually located a little further away from the heart of the city, or they are found in the slightly seedier areas of the busy districts. Bearing in mind that, in general, Tokyo is a very safe city as long as you use your common sense, this is not something that should put you off staying in one of these hotels.

If you decide to stay further out, the Tokyo travel options available to you mean that you can still easily get from A to B for a relatively small transportation charge.

Tokyo Capsule Hotel

tokyo-capsule-hotel

For those with a penchant for small spaces and cupboards, why not spend the night in a Tokyo capsule hotel?

This is something I've never personally experienced but my boyfriend's brother tried it when he came to visit. According to him it was very user friendly with access to plenty of amenities such as jacuzzi, sauna, and a breakfast room.

He did feel funny being closed in when he went to bed, but he soon got used to it. With a television built into the wall at the end of the bed, he could lie back and forget about where he was.

For the ladies who want to try this one you need to make sure that the Tokyo hotel you select accepts female guests. Check out our Capsule Inn Adventure video and see some ladies who did just that!

Traditionally these hotels were used by salarymen who missed the last train home after work and women never frequented these venues. As a result, some hotels are still "male only" as going mixed would mean they would have to spend a small fortune making sure each sex could have their own privacy within the confines of the hotel.

Tokyo Guesthouse

If you are backpacking or wanting a cheap and cheerful experience during your Tokyo stay, why not try a Tokyo guesthouse, sometimes referred to as a gaijin house. These remind me very much of student houses back in the UK.

You rent a room for the duration of your stay and you share the kitchen, bathroom, toilet, and any other facilities with everyone else staying in your building. There is usually access to washing machines so you can wash your own clothes and most now have excellent internet connections as part of the package.

When I came back to Tokyo after being in Singapore for a year, I stayed in one for a couple of months until I found the apartment I wanted to live in. I guess it all depends on who you are sharing with! Mind you, if you're going to be out and about a lot, it doesn't really matter as you won't be spending much time in each others company.

Tokyo Love Hotels

shibuya-love-hotel-entrance

I can't miss Love Hotels off our Tokyo hotel list! As well as being a little different from the norm and definitely fun, they are also a good deal in terms of price.

In the key areas of Tokyo such as Shibuya, Shinjuku, Shinagawa, and Meguro, there are plenty to choose from. The Shibuya area is maybe the most famous because of its love hotel hill area.

A stay overnight costs, on average, between ¥6,000 - ¥8,000 although there are more expensive options available and prices vary according to location.
