How to stay in contact with vacationing son in Japan?

by Colleen

Hello,

How can I keep in touch with my son while he is vacationing in Japan? He has a cell phone and lap top, but I hear they won't work there. We are from the States.

Hello Colleen,

I can understand your concern and it's certainly confusing trying to figure out what will work and what won't!

First of all, you're right about his cell phone. See our cell phone rental in Japan page for more information. However, your son can rent a phone while he is here (and he can get it straight away at the airport when he lands) if you want him to have a phone.

With his laptop, though, if you already use a service like Skype then you can go ahead and just communicate this way while he is in Japan.

His computer should work just fine in Japan. The one thing he will need is an adaptor plug so that he can plug it into the mains system here. The plugs in Japan are flat two pin plugs - that's why he needs the adaptor part.

Other than that his computer will work just fine here.

If you need any more help or if you need any more information just send me a comment at the bottom of this post and I'll get back to you asap : )

All the best,

Honor
