Hotel Stay At The Ritz In Tokyo

by Fred
(Phoenix, AZ, USA)

Sir,

This is our 1st time to Japan (or for that matter anywhere in the Far East).

We have traveled throughout only the USA and Europe in the past. My wife and I have a free 5 night stay at the new Ritz hotel. Can you tell me, is this location good for 1st timers?

We are in our 60's, like to shop, visit museums, eat at reasonably priced restaurants, and enjoy shinto shrines. Thank you.

Dear Fred,

First of all congratulations! Five free nights at the Ritz Carlton is a fantastic thing to have!

Just to confirm, I am thinking you mean the Ritz in Tokyo at Tokyo Midtown. If this is the case, I love this hotel and I think you're in a great location.

The photo above is from their Japanese restaurant. We've got a couple of pages about this on the site. See Ritz Carlton Tokyo restaurant and Ritz Carlton Dining in Tokyo.

The area where the Ritz Carlton is located is our favorite district in the Roppongi part of town. There are plenty of good restaurants to choose from if you want to eat outside the hotel as well as lots of shopping, activities and cultural events appropriate to the time of year. Take a look at this overview of what you'll find within the Tokyo Midtown complex.

For Shinto shrines you won't find any big ones right on your doorstep but you're in an excellent central location for getting around and seeing more. Meiji Jingu is not that far away.

Take the Hibiya subway line from Roppongi station to Ebisu station. From here get on the Yamanote line to Harajuku station. See the bottom of our Harajuku page for more information on Meiji Jingu.

If you fancy going a little further afield and seeing one of the more traditional districts outside Tokyo, take a look at our Tokyo Tours page. There's loads of itineraries to choose from: morning tours; afternoon tours; one day tours; or overnight stays.

Well Fred, I hope I've been able to answer your question. If there is anything else just send us a follow up comment and we'll be happy to help. Honestly we think you're going to have a great time! We're jealous of your free nights : )

Have a safe and happy journey.
