Good cheap eats place near Ryogoku station?

Great to have the chance to ask questions thanks!

I will be with a group of 7 friends and want to have an easy meal after visiting the Edo Tokyo Museum.

Can anyone recommend a place close to the station that would have the ability to fit 8 people and has decent food... even a recommendation for one of the outside restaurants connected to the station if there is any would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Gazle,

This is a great question and there is one izakaya style restaurant right by the station that is awesome - at least we think so.

You could definitely seat 8 in there although you might have to bring 2 tables together - this is no problem though so don't worry. When big parties go out this is the usual way to accommodate the group in this kind of restaurant.

The restaurant is called Hana no Mai and it has a sumo ring set right in the middle of the izakaya and some people get photos etc. to remind them of their stay. There's also lots of sumo memorabilia decorating the izakaya so it really is a great theme place to eat!

If the Grand Sumo Tournament is on during your stay then this place gets busy so either book ahead or arrive relatively early to guarantee a seat.

I've included some photos below from when we've been here so you can get an idea of the place and a map of the Ryogoku area showing you where things are.

Thank you so much for your reply and I apologise for my late followup of thanks! Sounds perfect and I appreciate your help. Can you give me any indication of costs at this restaurant (food.. not drinks of course)

Hi Gayle : )

I'm glad the info helped. I know what it's like to Google and get frustrated!

Re prices - this is an izakaya style restaurant so the usual way of eating is to order several different dishes and then everyone takes a little from the dishes they want to try.

Each dish is a different price but generally you're looking at between 300 to 500 yen for one dish. For a group of 4 of us we usually order between 6 - 8 dishes (depends how hungry we are)... and how long we stay there : )

Hope this helps,

Honor

Good idea!

This is a great idea! When I'm in Tokyo I often take my friend's daughter (from Hamamatsu) to the EDO Museum. This sounds like a great place to take a 12 year old after! Thanks! (bookmarking this page)
